Okay so what has been happening?
SEPTEMBER
Had to go for my Annual Camp with the Territorial Army.
The first week involved mostly running around and doing infantry stuff. Ended up in Dartmoor and participated in an Orientation Exercise. This involved a twenty kilometer as the "crow flies" walk.
Well as the crow flies actually means doing a marathon over the moors and the hills. The purpose was to find eight check points and Starting from 09:30 hours, we knew we wouldn't be able to find them all and return before 16:00.
There were seven groups, we started with eleven in our troop and due to injuries ended up with NINE...jeez. The place actually started reminding me of the scene with Frodo, Samwise and Gollum sneaking into Mordor. One of the guys actually ended up sinking to his waist before we could pull him out.
We managed up to checkpoint 6 at 18:00 hours before sacking the exercise. The ones supposed to take us back to camp got us lost and we decided to stand fast at 19:00 when it was getting to be too dark.
Luckily we found an outcropping and set up several bashas. Bashas are sort of like one side of a tent and you just use them as covers.
I was actually almost on the hypothermia stage and one of the others was much further along in the danger zone.
There were moments of calling Mountain Rescue, but around 23:00 the Senior Warrant Officer and the RSM found us and was able to guide us to camp. Finally arriving back at 01:15.
We were asked if we wanted to participate in the dawn assault, but we decided to give it a miss.
SECOND WEEK:
Newquay was nice.
Coastal walking
Abseiling
Rock Climbing
Coast Steering.
Not much happened apart from partaking in the local brew. Of course Cornish Pasty and Cornish Cream Tea.
Oh....Coast Sterrin: This entails jumping off a cliff into the water.
Almost drowned, but was okay in the end.
